Rock units here: Enogerra Granite (Late Triassic) and Bunya Phyllite (Late Devonian/ Early Carboniferous)

General guidance (things to think about while you are writing your report)

Site 1 provides an indication of the general rock type in this area, the Bunya Phyllite.   This is a low-grade metamorphic rock unit which is highly variable in composition and is approximately the same age as the Nerangleigh-Fernvale Beds (Carboniferous/ Devonian).

Sites 2-4 provide a transect across a major change in rock type.  Your job here is to work out what is happening.

  1. At each site what is the lithology?   Identify the conditions under where the rocks were deposited/ formed.
  2. The lithologies at the sites you find in this location are related but different.  How are they related to one another?  Can you determine which came first
  3. Using this information what can you infer about the tectonic environments during the times of deposition/ production of each rock unit?
